Electricity

Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative (MLEC) distributes electricity throughout Hohenwald and Lewis County. MLEC:

  • purchases electricity from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
  • provides energy-related engineering assistance to commercial/industrial members.
  • works closely with members in providing proper electric service to industrial sites.
  • participates in Growth Credit incentive and interruptible power programs of TVA.
  • serves over 33,000 customers in five counties with sales over $50 million.

Gas
  • Natural Gas is distributed by the City of Hohenwald. Hohenwald purchases natural gas from the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company.
  • Propane Gas is available throughout Hohenwald and Lewis County from Ferrellgas and Suburban Propane.
  • Fuel Oil is distributed by Barber Oil Company, Canter Oil Company and the Highland Corporation.

Water

The City of Hohenwald distributes water for Hohenwald and Lewis County. Deep water wells are the source of an abundant supply of
water.

  • Capacity - 2,592,000 gallons per day
  • Current Consumption - 870,000 gallons per day
  • Storage Capacity - 1,300,000 gallons

Sewage

The City of Hohenwald provides sewage services for Hohenwald and industrial parks located outside the city limits within Lewis County. 

  • Type of Treatment - Activated Sludge
  • Capacity - 1,100,000 gallons per day
  • Current Usage - 750,000 gallons per day

Solid Waste

Garbage pickup is available throughout Hohenwald and Lewis County. The City of Hohenwald provides service in Hohenwald and
contract haulers provide service throughout the remainder of Lewis County. The solid waste is disposed of through landfill technology.
