Lewis County was formed in 1843 from Hickman, Lawrence, Maury and Wayne counties.  The county seat is Hohenwald.

Incumbent Worker Training Grants Still Available          The Tennessee Career Centers would like to make business and industry aware that funds are still available for companies interested in conducting training of your current workforce.  Once a company training application has been approved, this grant will reimburse for training cost which upgrade the skills of current employees  Companies must first identify the training needed, a provider of training, and the cost of training.  The Incumbent Worker Training application is completed and processed for approval through the South Central Tennessee Workforce Alliance and the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.  Any training in the very near future would have to be approved and then completed by May 31, 2009 for the current program year.  Some of the program basics:·         Must have at least 5 full-time employees·         Must be a private, for-profit business or a private, non-profit in healthcare·         Training must be provided to upgrade the skills of employees·         Training will assist in keeping businesses competitive to promote growth and avoid layoffs·         Businesses may use public, private, or its own in-house training provider·         Businesses must provide a matching contribution equal to at least the requested grant amount (matching contributions can be wages and benefits, purchase of equipment, lodging, transportation, meals, etc. ·         Reimbursable training costs – instructors/trainers wages, curriculum development, textbooks/manuals, materials/supplies, tuition expense, software·         Notification of approval must be received prior to the start of any training Guidelines and Application website:   http://www.state.tn.us/labor-wfd/et_services_employers.html For program information and to process the completed application, contact:                              Stan Smith  --  Hickman, Lawrence, Lewis, Perry, and Wayne County                        Tennessee Career Center                        931-628-4236                                                                                           Dean Dickey  --  Maury, Marshall, and Giles County
